1. Provide a private room and board to the applicant. This includes, but not limited to, three healthy and adequate meals a day. Breakfast ranges from cereal, toast and jam, juice or coffee/tea to bacon and eggs or pancakes. Lunch may typically consist of a sandwich, fruit and a cold drink on school days and a hot meal on weekends. The family and the applicant will preferably have dinner together every night. The family is asked to prepare meals and save them for the applicant when you are not home or when the applicant comes home late from school or from personal matters.

  2. Provide basic furniture in the applicant's room. This includes but not limited to, a bed, closet, desk or study table, chair and a good lighting in the applicant's private room. The room will not be shared with other applicants or family members unless prior consent has been obtained from the Van Homestay and the applicant.

  3. Provide the room that was inspected by the coordinator. Van Homestay must inspect and approve any changes in room assignment.

  4. The family will get two weeks notice in advance if the applicant wishes to move out.

  5. The family will provide each applicant with a key to the house.

  6. The family must speak English when they spend time with the applicant. Also, the family will speak English to the family members in front of the applicant.

  7. Van Homestay is not responsible for long distance phone calls made by the applicant or any other expenses incurred during the applicants stay.

  8. The family will maintain comprehensive liability insurance on their property for the duration of this contract. The family will provide Van Homestay with proof of such insurance upon request. Working smoke detectors are required on each floor of the home. Van Homestay does not assume any responsibilities of injuries suffered by the student while in the family's care.

  9. The family will contact the Van Homestay immediately if any problems occur between the applicant.

  10. The family will not require or request the applicant to baby-sit or require the applicant to do housework apart from keeping his/her own room and bathroom clean.

  11. The family will treat the applicant with respect and tolerance. The family will not be aggressive or abusive towards the applicant.

  12. The family is expected to provide a welcoming and secure environment. If it is discovered that there are problems in the home, such as domestic violence, the applicant will be removed. If improper physical advances towards the applicant occurs, the applicant will be removed from the house and legal action will be taken if warranted.

  13. Van Homestay cannot guarantee that the family will be provided with an applicant every month continuously.

  14. The family is asked not to have more than two applicants who are from same countries unless Van Homestay request to do so.

  15. Failure to provide accurate information on the application will void any and all contracts with Van Homestay.

  16. In the event that the family is away during the applicant stay, the family will ensure that they limit their absence to no more than three consecutive days. The family also agrees to make arrangements for someone to perform the obligations under this agreement during their absence.

  17. The family agrees that they will release and hold Van Homestay harmless for any damages suffered or claimed as a result of entering into this agreement and without limiting the generality of the forgoing, for any action or behavior of the applicant during his/her stay.

  18. The applicants are bound to obey the same laws and statues as local citizens. Van Homestay is in no way to be considered as having legal guardian status or in any other manner responsible for the behavior or actions of the applicant.

  19. Make the applicant aware of rules and regulations of your household, preferably in writing.

  20. Notify Van Homestay if the applicant becomes ill or injured and needs medical attention. See that the applicant receives proper treatment of minor illness and injuries.

  21. Allow the applicant to bathe daily. A reasonable time allowed should be not less than 15 minutes. The family cannot limit the number of times the applicant bathes no less than twice per day.

  22. Notify Van Homestay if the applicant is absent without properly notifying you, or you suspect the applicant is missing or has run away.

  23. Notify Van Homestay if you suspect or have knowledge that the applicant may be in possession of drugs.

  24. Make the applicant feel like a member of your family.

  25. Speak clearly and slowly so that the applicant can understand what you say. Some applicants might feel pressured to answer your questions and answer "Yes" when they really mean "No".

  26. Listen to what the applicant say with patience. The applicants might have a problem to communicate with because of their English skills.

  27. The family agrees to maintain the minimum room temperature of 21 degree Celsius in winter and no higher than 26 degree Celsius in summer.

  28. Van Homestay has the right to move the applicant without the usual advance notice if the situation is unsatisfactory. If the family does not meet the requirements or criteria of the homestay program or breach any of the terms and conditions contained in this agreement, Van Homestay will have the right to immediately terminate participation in the program.

  29. The applicant is required to pay for any additional expenses not covered by the monthly homestay fee.

  30. The applicants are encourage to file police complaints about unwanted physical contact.
